Polish artist Pawel Althamer (b.1967) is a noted explorer of the social and communicative powers of art. Althamer trained as a sculptor, and his work often incorporates depictions of the human form but just as often incorporates living people - sometimes even the viewers themselves. High-profile public works have included Real Time Movie (2007), a "directed reality" performance in London starring Jude Law, and Balloon (2007), a 20-metre inflatable nude self-portrait flying over Milan. Althamer's work has been featured in major museums around the world, including Tate Modern in London, the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the New Museum in New York, and at major international exhibitions such as Skulptur Projekte in Münster (2007), the Istanbul Biennial (2006) and Documenta 10 (1997).
